As the city’s commercial growth spreads further south along Moreland Avenue, a new food hall is set to open in Atlanta. The Halidom Eatery is scheduled to open on the first floor of IST Management Services Inc.’s new international headquarters by the end of 2023. It will feature 11 food stalls, a bar, and a private events space in a space of about 13,000 square feet. The food hall is part of a larger mixed-use development project called Halidom, which includes a luxury apartment building, commercial and retail spaces, and a 2-acre park.
Halidom Eatery will feature a South Beach art deco motif, as designed by Philadelphia-based Eimer Design. The food hall developers, IST CEO and President Hal Blackman and Vice President of Marketing and Real Estate Brad Burgess, are combining two existing retail spaces to create the food hall, which is estimated to cost $5.2 million.
The food hall format has become popular among the Atlanta development community, with Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market’s Central Food Hall leading the trend. Several other food halls have opened or are in the planning stages in the city and its suburbs.
The Halidom development is less than two miles south of East Atlanta Village, where Southern Feed Store, another food hall, is located. The area is attracting increased attention from developers, with Empire Communities in the process of redeveloping a 32-acre shopping center into hundreds of apartments and townhomes just a quarter-mile away from Halidom.
The word “halidom” itself is a 12th-century Middle English term that translates to “sanctuary.” The food hall and larger development project aim to provide a sanctuary for locals and visitors, offering a vibrant and diverse mix of culinary options and retail experiences in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Overall, the Halidom Eatery is expected to add more food and lifestyle options to Atlanta’s bustling food hall scene, and the larger Halidom development project is set to enhance the neighborhood’s appeal as a destination for food, entertainment, and living. With the opening of Halidom Eatery, Atlanta’s foodies can look forward to an exciting culinary adventure in a new and innovative space.
